Tips for Finding the Right Dentist

Most of us have a dentist that we see regularly, however if you move to a new area, you might be faced with the daunting task of how to find a local dentist.  Here are some tips.

1. Ask around. Chances are that you moved for work or family, so these are the people you need to look to in an effort to help rebuild your local resources. Referrals are often the best source of finding new medical providers.

2.  Ask Google. If you get referrals, you can also do your due diligence by doing a Google search on the provider to see what comes up.  If you need a specialist that no one can refer you to, then Google will be a great resource for you as well.

3. Ask your Dental Insurance Provider.  Assuming that you have a dental plan, they should have a list of providers that are covered, so at least that will give you a pool of dentists to start with.

Most of all, you need to be comfortable with the dentist and his or her staff.  Ideally, you should schedule a cleaning or a consultation to meet the dentist as opposed to oral surgery or a root canal.  At that point it is a bit late to see if you want to work with them because you are pretty well committed once the procedure has started.
